Jemma has recently graduated from the University of Kent in July 2019 with a BSc Honours degree in Sports Therapy and is a member of the Society of Sports Therapists.
During her time studying, Jemma completed placements as a Student Sports Therapist for Chelmsford Rugby Club and Southend Rugby Club and provided sports massage to runners at the London Marathon in 2016. Outside of her placements, Jemma has worked for Essex RFU for three seasons as a Sports Therapist for the Saracens Development Player Programme and for three seasons has been the lead Sports Therapist for Chelmsford Chieftains Ice Hockey Team. She has also been on two international rugby tours, leading the provision of medical support.
Jemma has always been interested in sports from a young age and represented Essex in Javelin and Shot Putt. After suffering a career ending injury her focus shifted to study as a Sports Therapist, as she wanted to help and support athletes who may have incurred setbacks in their pursuit of fulfilling their goals in sport and exercise.
Her fascination with the body’s biomechanics in relation to sport has influenced Jemma to study a masters degree in Strength and Conditioning from September 2019. This will help develop her rehabilitation skills and increase her knowledge of the human body.
Most of Jemma’s experience has been with athletes but she is excited to work with non-sporting individuals as well in her time at Saffron Walden.
